AI Japan will begin a proof of concept in October 2026 for a Compute Resource Exchange where access to GPUs and other computing resources can be traded securely and flexibly.
Demand for high-performance GPUs is growing rapidly as generative AI expands, while GPUs owned by companies, research institutions, and data centers also have periods of unused capacity. The exchange is designed to connect organizations that need compute with providers that can make it available under common standards.

Users will specify requirements such as GPU type, usage period, and security controls, while providers will list capacity available now or in the future. The concept extends beyond trading to standardize encryption, environment assignment, validation, and audit records for running AI jobs on the matched infrastructure.
PROOF OF CONCEPT
Testing begins on domestic
physical infrastructure in October 2026.
The PoC will test the complete flow: encrypting data and AI jobs, validating execution environments, assigning GPU capacity, decrypting and running workloads, and re-encrypting and returning results. It will also develop the pricing, provider certification, key management, auditing, responsibility allocation, and contractual model needed for continued operation.

AI Japan is seeking companies, universities, and research institutions interested in testing AI job execution, as well as companies and universities able to provide GPU compute. Participants will jointly validate pricing, supply terms, platform operations, security requirements, and the division of responsibilities.
