CAREERS / APPLIED AI ENGINEERING

Turn AI into
products that
work in practice.

At AI Japan, we turn the potential of AI into products that change how people work. We are looking for teammates who own the journey from discovering customer problems to design, implementation, evaluation, and production operations.

WHY AI JAPAN

Look beyond the model.
Change how work gets done.

We work in areas such as chat, research, review, and operational support, where AI serves as an entry point to people and information. We design for accuracy, safety, usability, and operability as well as exploring new models, so our products become part of everyday work.

01 / START WITH USERS

Start with the workplace

We understand users' decisions, constraints, and existing workflows before defining the problem to solve or choosing technology.

02 / OWN THE OUTCOME

Own the outcome

We connect requirements, experience, code, cloud infrastructure, and operations, taking responsibility until the product delivers value in practice.

03 / EARN TRUST

Design for trust

We make clear where AI answers and where people decide, treating evidence, evaluation, auditability, and security as part of the product.

04 / UPDATE QUICKLY

Test in small steps

We turn hypotheses into working software and learn from user feedback and measurements. We update priorities and implementation quickly as the evidence changes.

SCOPE
End-to-end
STATUS
Open

In this role, you clarify ambiguous customer and user problems, design and build products with AI, and keep improving them based on actual usage.

Your responsibility extends across AI models and applications. You identify the most important problem and build systems used in production, learning the technologies and domain knowledge needed along the way.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

What you will do

  • Define valuable use cases and success criteria through conversations with customers and users
  • Develop products with generative AI from prototype through production
  • Design and implement prompts, search and RAG, agents, and tool integrations
  • Measure quality, failure patterns, and improvements using evaluation and real-world usage datasets
  • Operate production systems including APIs, data, authentication, and cloud infrastructure
  • Turn customer insights into reusable designs and future product improvements

YOU MIGHT THRIVE HERE IF

Who we want to work with

  • You identify problems independently and can choose the next step even in ambiguous situations
  • You have shipped software to production and followed how users respond
  • You can work across the necessary parts of a system using Python, TypeScript, or similar languages
  • You consider UX, reliability, cost, and safety alongside model performance
  • You explain technical decisions in language customers and colleagues in other roles can understand
  • You enjoy learning new technologies and domain knowledge beyond your assigned scope

VALUED EXPERIENCE

Experience you can bring

  • Full-stack web application development
  • LLMs, search and RAG, AI agents, and evaluation infrastructure
  • Cloud design and operations on AWS or similar platforms, CI/CD, and observability
  • Products involving security, privacy, or regulated domains
  • Testing hypotheses in startups or new businesses
  • Self-initiated work such as open source, personal projects, or technical writing

A career in AI research or a particular degree is not required. We value what you have built, shipped, and learned.

A TWO-WAY CONVERSATION

Find out together whether we are a good fit.

Tell us how you approached difficult problems, what you built, and what you learned along the way. We will also share openly where our business, technology, and team stand today.

  1. 01Problems you solved

We will review the context, constraints, decisions, and results together.

  2. 02Things you built

Products, code, research, writing, or other formats are all welcome.

  3. 03Your next chapter

We will discuss the areas you want to explore and the working conditions that matter to you.
